New Car >> 2010 Opel GTC Paris Concept

2010 Opel GTC Paris Concept 1At 4,46 m, GTC Paris, an ideal size for a compact, sporty car, but it still offers room for five passengers. Most of the iconic vehicles were taken from the parties. Many people may be the outline, two or three distinct lines. Same with the new concept car Opel in: In Profile, designers maximum voltage, limiting the number of rows in the GTC Paris. As with tendons, a sprinter, these lines create tension and provide sculptural forms. They serve as a basis for highlighting and surfacing to respond and then the wheels in a very sporting fashion.

2010 Opel GTC Paris Concept 2The Opel signature blade is introduced in the same direction as first seen in the Insignia – a fine, tense crease along the rocker panel. A second line shoots from the door handle to the rear, emphasizing the vehicle’s dramatic stance by spreading the surfaces to a fine undercut and a broad shoulder. The third line following the silhouette of the roof is finished in finely brushed aluminum that accentuates the window graphic, guiding the eye to the sharply distinct integrated spoiler.

2010 Opel GTC Paris Concept 3The front is clean yet full of character and features Opel’s typical centerline crease. It is further accented by intense, very slim eagle-eye shaped headlamps acting as parenthesis between the refined chrome emblem bar and the dramatic low trapezoidal grill which hints at its sporty character. Signature LED daytime running lights are outlined with finely crafted chrome inserts that can stand as a piece of sculpture by themselves.

2010 Opel GTC Paris Concept 4The best of Opel’s compact car technology is brought to its sportiest level on the GTC Paris. The chassis has a special design with an extra-wide stance. It features a compound crank with an Opel-exclusive Watt’s link in the rear, a new, updated execution of the adaptive mechatronic FlexRide suspension and a front electronic limited slip differential. The GTC Paris is planted to the ground with dynamic 21-inch wheels. The powertrain in the GTC Paris is a four-cylinder, 2.0 liter Turbo with direct injection, packing maximum horsepower and torque. It is fitted with Start/Stop technology, proving that drivers can combine high performance with maximum fuel efficiency in urban driving conditions. The transmission is a six-speed manual gearbox.

Cars Reviews >> 2010 Honda Accord EX V6

Honda Accord EX V6 car

Substitute BMW, white and blue roundel on a stylized "H" in the middle of the steering wheel and a few drivers would come out, they were operating in 2010 Honda Accord EX-L (L for leather) V6 sedan and not a BMW. If you could keep the charade going, many would like that better than BMW.

Styling :
First, few can tell the difference between the 271 horsepower produced by the Accord’s 3.5-liter V6 and the 300-plus horses available in some BMW’s. Most drivers will, thankfully, release the gas pedal long before either engine has a chance to show its full potential. The Honda’s five-speed automatic up-shifts with a precision virtually indistinguishable from a BMW, though it lacks the gimmicky computerized double-clutch downshifts found on some.

Next, the Accord EX-L, BMW-driving is taut and its management has the same confidence-inspiring feeling, as well as bids from Munich. Indeed, our rear-expected-and should-appreciated bit less rigid suspension from Honda. (But they were very satisfied with head-and leg room but complained about the noise level. Honda seats, front and rear wheels have the same butt-gripping the support that it has long been found in the BMW.

Porsche Loses Independence to VW: Launches Panamera Sedan.

panamera.jpg

Volkswagen AG reached terms with Porsche SE to acquire a controlling stake in the iconic sports carmaker. The Persian Gulf State of Qatar is also part of the deal in a new VW-Porsche company, walking away with 10% of Porsche, as well as stock options Porsche holds in VW, with an eventual share in the company of 20%.

Volkswagen will pay about 3.3 billion euros, or $4.7 billion, for a 42-percent stake in Porsche’s automotive unit as part of a plan for the gradual merger of the two manufacturers.

The deal brings an end to Porsche’s long-held independence, which has for years been part of the image it boasted to investors and customers of the iconic brand. The chief guardian of that image, CEO Wendelin Wiedeking, agreed last month to step down from his post after 16 years. Wiedeking, the highest paid CEO in Western Europe, took the fall, following three years of trying to engineer a takeover of Volkswagen by Porsche through a derivative scheme that fell apart and left the company with more than $14 billion of debt to service.

Officials from both companies said the combined company would eventually overtake Toyota, the world’s biggest automaker, in sales and profitability.

“Volkswagen’s solid financial base and Porsche’s independence will be preserved,” VW’s statement said.

“That is what they are saying, but the fact is that Porsche is forever changed this week,” says Los Angeles-Based marketing consultant Dennis Keene. “It isn’t likely that Porsche fanatics will detect any loss of integrity in the vehicles, because the VW management and families controlling the company’s destiny are devoted to the brand, but the company is no longer independent.”

Poetsch said the exact capital position of the families in the new company would depend on specific criteria which would be reviewed during the process of the merger. Porsche AG is currently VW’s biggest shareholder with about 52 percent.

Porsche will become VW’s tenth brand in its portfolio, along with Audi, Bentley and Skoda. VW is also a major shareholder in two of the continent’s biggest truck makers: Scania AB of Sweden and MAN SE of Germany.

Shares of VW fell more than 15 percent on the news to euro191.72 while shares of Porsche Automobil Holding SE rose more than 10 percent to euro49.19 in Frankfurt afternoon trading.
Historic Week

Porsche is losing its independence the same week it is launching its newest, most controversial product in many years in its most important market. The Porsche Panamera, the company’s first sedan, has been unveiled at this week’s annual Concourse d’Elegance car show in Pebble Beach, Ca.

“This is the perfect stage to roll out this extraordinary car,” said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO, Porsche Cars North America. “Everywhere you look there is a spectacular California backdrop and the entire week is devoted to thousands of auto enthusiasts celebrating the beauty of classic automobiles, both new and old.”

The Panamera Gran Turismo will go on sale at the brand’s 202 U.S. dealers on October 17, 2009.

“First and foremost, the Panamera is a true Porsche,” said von Platen. “It is a race bred car that you can now share with three other people in incredible comfort and class.”

The Panamera has the engine in the front, like most sedans. Porsche is known for rear-mounted engines in its cars. It has been built on an all-new engineering platform, and is powered by a 400-horsepower 4.8-liter V8 in base models, a 500-hp version in the Panamera Turbo. The price range for the car is from $89,800 to more than $132,000.
The sedan was the brain-child of Wiedeking, though it is hard to say iof Volkswagen would have seen the value in developing a Porsche sedan given the fact that VW sells competititors to the Panamera from its Audi and Bentley showrooms.

Driving impressions of the car haven’t been logged yet by the leading auto testing magazines. But one criticism of the design so far is a bulbous back end roof-line, which were specifically designed to create a comfortable rear-seat space for full-sized adults.

Toyota Philippines to Launch Prius at P2.25M

toyota-prius-2009

Toyota Motors Philippines is finally launching its hot-selling Prius hybrid in the Philippines next week, but the ecologically-correct car could carry a price tag of around P2.25 million.

“Toyota wants to be the first to locally introduce hybrid, environment-friendly cars as alternative vehicles,” said Raymond Rodriguez, Toyota Motor’s first vice president for vehicle sales.

The third-generation, 1.8-liter Prius would be imported completely built from Japan and subject to a 30-percent tariff in addition to the excise tax and 12-percent value-added tax, Rodriguez said in explaining the hybrid’s higher price.

By contrast, Toyota’s most expensive sedan available locally, the 3.5-liter V6 version, retails for P2.005 million.

According to industry sources, the local Toyota has been given an initial allocation of 25 units and another 10 units a month given the three to four months of waiting time for Japanese customers to drive home a new unit.

Targeting the mainstream market, the new model is more powerful than its predecessors, with more headroom, a bigger trunk and better gas mileage.

It is rated at 50 miles a gallon, according to US press reports, 10 miles better than its principal hybrid competition, the Honda Insight.
